چکیده

We consider time-harmonic wave scattering from an inhomogeneous isotropic medium supported in a bounded domain ⊂ RN (N ≥ 2). In a subregion D , the medium is supposed to be lossy and have a large mass density. We study the asymptotic development of the wave field as the mass density ρ → +∞ and show that the wave field inside D will decay exponentially while the wave filed outside the medium will converge to the one corresponding to a sound-hard obstacle D buried in the medium supported in \D. Moreover, the normal velocity of the wave field on ∂D from outside D is shown to be vanishing as ρ → +∞. We derive very accurate estimates for the wave field inside and outside D and on ∂D in terms of ρ, and show that the asymptotic estimates are sharp. The implication of the obtained results is given for an inverse scattering problem of reconstructing a complex scatterer.

Near-Optimal Controls of a Fuel Cell Coupled with Reformer using Singular Perturbation methods

A singularly perturbed model is proposed for a system comprised of a PEM Fuel Cell(PEM-FC) with Natural Gas Hydrogen Reformer (NG-HR). This eighteenth order system is decomposedinto slow and fast lower order subsystems using singular perturbation techniques that provides tools forseparation and order reduction. Then, three different types of controllers, namely an optimal full-order,a near-opti...

Detecting the location of the boundary layers in singular perturbation problems with general linear non-local boundary ‎conditions‎

Singular perturbation problems have been studied by many mathematicians. Since the approximate solutions of these problems are as the sum of internal solution (boundary layer area) and external ones, the formation or non-formation of boundary layers should be specified. This paper, investigates this issue for a singular perturbation problem including a first order differential equation with gen...

An improved time domain linear sampling method for Robin and Neumann obstacles

We consider inverse obstacle scattering problems for the wave equation with Robin or Neumann boundary conditions. The problem of reconstructing the geometry of such obstacles from measurements of scattered waves in the time domain is tackled using a time domain linear sampling method. This imaging technique yields a picture of the scatterer by solving a linear operator equation involving the me...

Seismic inverse scattering in the ‘wave-equation’ approach

In this paper we use methods from partial differential equations, in particular microlocal analysis and theory of Fourier integral operators, to study seismic imaging in the wave-equation approach. Seismic data are commonly modeled by a high-frequency single scattering approximation. This amounts to a linearization in the medium coefficient about a smooth background. The discontinuities are con...

Electromagnetic wave scattering by small bodies

A reduction of the Maxwell’s system to a Fredholm second-kind integral equation with weakly singular kernel is given for electromagnetic (EM) wave scattering by one and many small bodies. This equation is solved asymptotically as the characteristic size of the bodies tends to zero. The technique developed is used for solving the manybody EM wave scattering problem by rigorously reducing it to s...
